Bad Natured is a philosophical belief system that takes into account man’s social nature, his sense of self awareness, and his socially acceptable codes of conduct as determined by his culture and which are inculcated into the human psyche from birth. By comparing and contrasting these issues, it can easily be deduced that they are not always compatible. In essence, when a man’s cultural codes of conduct comes into conflict with a man’s nature, or with specific behavioral inclinations, these unacceptable behaviors are either repressed, which in turn creates discontent, or are secretly expressed, which creates shame. As such, Bad Natured can be seen as a philosophical tool which can help us to better elucidate the foundations of culturally induced discontent and shame.
